Class Descriptions

Sparring:
      We learn the art of street combat through soft contact striking. Practical techniques are taught that are based on Shiroma Shihan's training in Karate, boxing, Muay Thai, Judo and other arts.

Kata:
      We learn balance and control of our movements in pre-arranged forms called katas. Kobayashi Shorin-ryu Kata emphasize speed and coordination of the entire body.

Ju-Jutsu:
      The art of grappling.  Jujutsu includes standing and ground work with techniques designed to immobilize opponents with joint locks, pressure points, chokes, etc. The school's fully matted area allows for safe practice of techniques such as falls and throws. .

Weapons:
     Traditional Okinowan weapons were whatever was close at hand during daily life. The same concepts apply today when learning how to extend the reach and power of bare hands.

Weapons we use include:
Bo/ Long staff
Nunchaku
Bokken/Shinai (sword)
Short Sticks
Kama

Basics:
      Learn how to kick and punch correctly with full speed and power on heavy bags and hand-held pads. This is an aerobic workout for the entire body and includes many concepts from Shiroma Shihan's experience as a Muay Thai kick boxing trainer.

Muay Thai:
      Held only on Saturday mornings, this class is Kick-Boxing training for competitive events or for just a great workout.

Once a Week:
      For kids only. This class is great for kids who can only attend one time a week.
  It includes sparring, jujutsu, and kata.
